Geir Arne Brevik, December 6 2007:
Playlist: Late 2007
From party to afterparty, lots of covers, lots of songs from movies. Doesn’t work very well in loop. Here it goes, the last piece of my soundtrack from 2007:
- Britney Spears – Gimme More – You got to give it to whoever the cynical bastard is that manages Britney’s career. After she’s done almost everything that’s possible to do wrong, she comes with an album that’s actually pretty cool and interesting. We love you Britney.
- The Notorious B.I.G. – Big Poppa – Ah, remember the nineties? When P. Diddy was called Puff Daddy and merely the protégé of Biggie? I do. But I think the song is cooler now than I did back then. I didn’t get hiphop back then. Not sure if I do now either, but at least I appreciate it.
- The Bar-Kays – Too Hot To Stop – Like the previous tune, this one’s featured on the Superbad soundtrack. And that’s the main reason why it’s on here. ‘Cause it’s superbad.
- Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling Into Place – One of the best tracks on In Rainbows – the guitar break at around 3:00 is just heavenly.
- Rock Plaza Central – SexyBack – Don’t get me wrong, I listen to Justin all the time, BUT it takes true talent to cover a song with such shallow and stupid lyrics and NOT make it just another novelty piece. ‘Cause this is seriously really good.
- Beth Gibbons & Rustin’ Man – Sand River – It just might be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
- Bryan Ferry – Make you feel my love – From the album Dylanesque. I need to pay more attention to both Ferry and Dylan.
- The Secret Goldfish – Big Sur – Another cover, this one originally by Brian Wilson. From one of my absolute favorite albums: “Caroline Now!”
- Beck – Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometimes – The Swedish tv channel SVT2 quite often have good music when they end their transmissions at night. And so I accidentally discovered this The Corgis cover from the soundtrack for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
- Moby – Extreme Ways – Old song, remixed for The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m not a big Moby fan, but this song is awesome in it’s melancholic aggressiveness.
